Any system can support the playback for live events that is compatible with H.264 video decoding, HTML5, and Media Source.  For higher resolution playback versions, users must have browsers that support H.265 decoding in HTML5 players.


HDR and Dolby Vision playback is supported on these platforms:

  1. Safari 11+ on iPhone 8 and above and iPad Pro 2nd generation and above
  2. Apple TV compatible with HDR10
  3. iOS devices
  4. macOS devices


For the smallest playback on desktop, users can use the latest version of the following browsers with WebGL and hardware acceleration enabled:

  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Edge
  • Safari

Accessing 360 videos on mobile devices can be possible with the official Vimeo app for Android or IOS. Mobiles devices must have the compatibility for the app to play 360 videos. Users can also play 360 videos within the Vimeo app and place their devices in Google Cardboard compatible headsets.

Vimeo earns its money through a paid subscription, and the subscribers can enjoy it more as they can offer great videos without annoying ads.  The business model of Vimeo is working for them, so it looks like this great feature will not be changing shortly.
